Richard E. Netzer

Richard E. Netzer, 63, of 12 Maple St., Housatonic, died Friday at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 22, 1940, son of Frank and Anna Markevich Netzer, he was a graduate of John Jay High School in Brooklyn. He moved to Housatonic in 1968. Mr. Netzer was an elevator constructor and repairman for Bay State Elevator from 1968 until his retirement in 2002. At the time of his death, he was a professional card dealer at Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Conn. He was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church, a former Little League coach and a surf fisherman. He was a member of the Mount Everett Council, Knights of Columbus 513 and the Bishop Conaty Assembly 4th-degree Knights 0395. The International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 44 honored him with a certificate of honor and a gold honorary card in 2001 His wife, the former Patricia A. O’Brien, whom he married July 14, 1960, in the Bronx, N.Y., died Oct. 13, 2000. He leaves four sons, Richard W. Netzer of Pittsfield, Christopher J. Netzer of Housatonic, Thomas J. Netzer of Great Barrington and Robert A. Netzer of Stockbridge; a daughter, Ellen M. House of Great Barrington; a sister, Lillian Brown of Maine, and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Richard E. Netzer, who died Sept. 5, 2003, surrounded by his loving family, will be Wednesday at 9 from BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Corpus Christi Church at 10 celebrated by the Rev. Anthony J. Jutt, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Survivors include seven grandchildren, Sophia, Aaron, Kaleigh, Brielle, Shannon, Kelsey and Thomas. Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Netzer’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
