Joseph A. Baldasarre

Joseph A. Baldasarre, 73, former longtime resident and barber in West Stockbridge, died at his home at 15 Frances Plaza, Pittsfield, on Wednesday. He had lived in Pittsfield since 1990. Born at the family home on Main Street in West Stockbridge on March 25, 1930, son of Francesco and Rosa Mara Bruno Baldasarre, he attended local schools in West Stockbridge and was a graduate of the former Williams High School. He was a Navy veteran. When he returned from his military service, he went to work in the family barber shop, taking it over upon the death of his father. He closed the shop in 1990 when he retired. He formerly attended St. Patrick’s Church and was a member of the former Italian-American Club. He was also a former member of the Joseph Libardi American Legion Post. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He leaves four daughters, Bonnie Samford of Arlington, Texas, Donna Hawkins of Southwick, Joanne James of Alburg, Vt., and Carla Grays of Prince Frederick, Md.; three sisters, Ann Bristol, Irene Norton and Rosemary O’Connor, all of West Stockbridge, and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private graveside service will be conducted at the family plot in St. Patrick’s Cemetery by the Rev. Steven F.C. McGuigan, pastor of St. Patrick’s Church. A memorial Mass will be offered at the convenience of the family. He was predeceased by his brothers, the Rev. William J., Ernest C. and George V. Baldasarre. Another brother, Francis S. Baldasarre was killed in 1943 in the Pacific during World War II. A sister, Theresa J. Pons, died earlier.
