Peter T. Murphy, 49, of 44 Anita Drive died Thursday at home. Born in Pittsfield on May 14, 1954, son of Leonard J. and Ethel C. Ahlen Murphy, he was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and a 1972 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He loved to garden and was fond of animals. He leaves a brother, Dennis M. Murphy of Pittsfield, and a sister, Lynn K. Murphy of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by his father, who died Aug. 26, and his mother, who died Feb. 15. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Peter T. Murphy, who died on Thursday, Sept. 11, will be Monday, Sept. 15, at 10:15 from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 in Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce. Burial will follow in St. Josephâ€™s Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 2 to 5. Mr. Murphy was the beloved brother-in-law of Denise Murphy; loving uncle to Todd and Brian Rilla, Jennifer and Michael Murphy and Shauna and Calvin Murphy, and beloved great uncle to Christian and Joshua Rilla. He was especially fond of his black Lab, Mookie. He was predeceased by a brother, Gary L. Murphy, who died March 28, 1994. If friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.
