Edna Ovitt Mansir

Edna Ovitt Mansir, 91, of Lumbert Cross Road, Southfield, died Sunday at Geer Nursing Home in North Canaan, Conn., where she had resided for several weeks. Born at home in New Marlboro on March 3, 1912, daughter of William and Jessie Sanford King, she attended Southfield schools. A homemaker, Mrs. Mansir enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting. She also had a vegetable garden and canned many of her own preserves. Her first husband, Ronald S. Ovitt, died in November 1947. Her husband, Edwin Mansir, whom she married in 1962, died in 1996. She leaves nine sons, Ronald W. Ovitt Sr. of Great Barrington, Roger Ovitt of East Canaan, Conn., Raymond Ovitt Sr. of Falls Village, Conn., Carlton Ovitt Sr. of Torrington, Conn., Wayne Ovitt Sr. of Pittsfield, Brian Ovitt of Sheffield, Robert Ovitt of Southfield, Jerry Ovitt of Mill River and Garry Ovitt Sr. of Sheffield; two daughters, Eleanor O. Heineman of Wethersfield, Conn., and Joy O. Eichstedt of Southfield; 40 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Edna Ovitt Mansir, who died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, will be held Wednesday at 11 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, led by Betty Legeyt of Canaan United Methodist Church, friend of the family. Calling hours will be today, Sept. 16, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Mrs. Mansir is survived by nine sons: Ronald Ovitt Sr. of Great Barrington; Roger Ovitt and his wife, Barbara, of East Canaan, Conn.; Raymond Ovitt Sr. and his wife, Marie, of Falls Village, Conn.; Carlton Ovitt Sr. and his wife, Margaret, of Torrington, Conn.; Wayne Ovitt Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Pittsfield; Brian Ovitt and his wife, Alice, of Sheffield; Robert Ovitt of Southfield; Jerry Ovitt of Mill River, and Garry Ovitt Sr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Sheffield; two daughters, Eleanor O. Heineman and her husband, Horst, of Wethersfield, Conn., and Joy O. Eichstedt of Southfield; 40 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves Claudia Humes, wife of her cousin, Douglas Humes, and her favorite dog, Scruffy, at home. She was predeceased by her siblings George King, Mae King-Emprimpo, Charles King and Donald King, as well as her daughter-in-law, Helen, wife of Ronald Ovitt, in 1997.
