Jean Shirley Wheeler

Jean Shirley Wheeler, 76, of 915 East St. died yesterday morning at home. Born in Springfield on Sept. 8, 1927, daughter of Laura Patric Sicotte, she attended schools in Springfield, Newark, N.J., and Pittsfield. Primarily a homemaker, she held a variety of positions, both in Massachusetts and New Jersey. She was a communicant of St. Teresa Church. For many years, she was actively involved in supporting quality education in local schools and showing her support by attending School Committee meetings, and expressing her opinions through letters to the editor and radio call-in programs. She and her husband, Robert T. Wheeler, were married Feb. 14, 1953. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Tracy Jean Wheeler of Northville, Mich., and a sister, Claire R. Leydet of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Jean Shirley Wheeler, who died Thursday, Sept. 18, was predeceased by her brother, Joseph R. Sicotte of Pittsfield, who died July 26, 2002. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 10 at St. Teresa's Church with the Rev. John J. Varley, pastor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Mrs. Wheeler be remembered with Mass intentions at St. Teresa's Church or that contributions be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
