JAMES FOYER ARMSTRONG

MR. JAMES FOYER ARMSTRONG, 80, of 79 Natural Bridge Rd. North Adams, Mass. died Monday evening Dec. 4, 2000 at the Willowood Health Care Center in Williamstown, Mass. He was born in North Adams, Mass on July 13, 1920 a son of the late William Foyer Armstrong and Anna (McNine) Armstrong. He moved to Adams at an early age and attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School. Mr. Armstrong was a veteran of World War II and served with the US Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of operations. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed for a short time at the Navy Shipyard in Boston, Mass. He then returned to the area and joined the General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, Mass where he was employed in the Naval Ordnance Dept. for 37 years until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post # 125 American Legion in North Adams and the Dr. George L. Curran Post #996 VFW in North Adams. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife, the former Gertrude Mae Wittig, whom he married on Nov. 8, 1948 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams. One Daughter- Mrs Barbara A. Seth of Grafton, Wisconsin One Son- John Foyer Armstrong of North Adams One Grandaughter- Jennifer N. Seth-Cimini of Buffalo, NY One Cousin- Mrs. Joan Davies of North Adams Private graveside services for James Foyer Armstrong will take place at the convenience of the family in Hillside Cemetery in North Adams, Mass. There are no calling hours. The omission of flowers is requested. The Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals at 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247 is in charge of arrangements.
