Harold B. Tatro Jr., 79

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Harold Butler Tatro Jr., 79, of 27-2 South Meadow Village, Carver, formerly of North Adams, died Thursday morning, Sept. 19, 2003, at Milton Hospital. Born in North Adams on April 8, 1924, son of Harold B. Tatro Sr. and Effie Deans Tatro, he graduated from Drury High School and received his bachelor of arts degree from Middlebury (Vt.) College. He lived in Canton for 25 years before moving to Carver four years ago. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater. Mr. Tatro was employed by New York Life Insurance Co. for 26 years, retiring as a training supervisor 17 years ago. Earlier, he had worked for several years at his family's business, the former McCraw & Tatro Store in North Adams. He attended United Parish of Carver and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Middlebury, Vt., and the American Association of Chartered Life Underwriters. He enjoyed camping, traveling and playing golf. He and his wife, the former Phyllis Belanger, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary Aug. 6. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Jeffrey B. Tatro of Manchester, N.H.; a daughter, Karen F. Wilson of Assonet; a sister, Elizabeth Slade of Sandwich, and three grandchildren, Joshua Wilson of Brookline, Chad Wilson of Assonet and Alexandra Tatro of Manchester, N.H., and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mr. Tatro will be conducted Friday, Sept. 26, at 1 at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., North Adams, by the Rev. Jill Graham, pastor of First Congregational Church of North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 1 Harvard St., Brookline, MA 02146-9795.
