Morris B. Alpert

Morris B. Alpert, 92, of 20 Windom Terrace died yesterday at Williamstown Commons. Born in North Adams on June 18, 1911, son of Joseph Alpert and Ida Kovitz Alpert, he graduated from Drury High School in 1928. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the infantry in Calcutta, India. After his service, he became the proprietor of North Adams Junk Co. on Ashland Street, retiring in 2002. He was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Israel, where he served on the board of directors and was currently the honorary vice president. He was a longtime member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 310. His wife, the former Sylvia H. Goldstein, whom he married in June 1938 in New York City, died Aug. 7, 1986. He leaves a daughter, Rochelle "Shelley" Goren of Framingham; two sons, Ronald Alpert of New York City and Howard Alpert of Framingham; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves his longtime companion, Katie Knopp. Another daughter, Maxine Jan Beliveau, died Nov. 18, 1986. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Morris B. Alpert will be conducted Friday at 11 at Congregation Beth Israel, 53 Lois St. North Adams, by the Rabbi Jeffrey W. Goldwasser of Congregation Beth Israel. Burial will follow in Beth Israel Cemetery, Clarksburg. There will be no calling hours. The omission of flowers is requested. Memorial donations are suggested for Congregation Beth Israel through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. He also leaves his grandchildren Shawn, Alexander, Shannon, Lien and Kay Alpert, and five great-grandchildren.
