Harmon F. Witter

Harmon F. Witter, 86, of 205 Summer St. died yesterday morning at Springside of Pittsfield, where he had resided for two months. Born in Albany, N.Y., on Dec. 21, 1916, son of Frank H. and Ida Keenholts Witter, he was a 1934 graduate of Altamont (N.Y.) High School. He had resided in Lanesboro since 1959. Mr. Witter was employed by GE as a contract administrator in Schenectady, N.Y., and Pittsfield, retiring in 1979 after 36 years of service. He was a member of South Congregational Church. He also was a member of the Upper Hudson Valley and the Berkshire County antique car clubs. A banjo player, he played at Pat's Ranch in Altamont during the 1950s and later at festivals throughout New England. He and his wife, the former Jane Howenstein, were married June 8, 1940, in the Methodist church in Guilderland, N.Y. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Richard H. Witter of Littleton; two daughters, Carol W. Miedema of Raleigh, N.C., and Debra Cunningham of Charlotte, N.C., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Harmon F. Witter died in Pittsfield on Sept. 24, 2003. A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 29, at 2 at South Congregational Church. He was predeceased by a brother, Keith Witter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at South Congregational Church or to the Lanesboro Fire Department, in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
