Vitaline Yvette "Sunny" Cairns

Vitaline Yvette "Sunny" Cairns, 76, of 140 North Summer St. died yesterday at Williamstown Commons, where she had resided since September 2001. Born in Verdun, Quebec, Canada, on Aug. 21, 1927, daughter of Victor and Malvina LeStage Remillard, she moved to Adams as an infant and resided on Myrtle Street. She attended the former Notre Dame School in Adams and was a 1945 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams. Mrs. Cairns worked at the Marshall Street plant of the former Sprague Electric Co. and then was employed by GE in the power transformer division until 1973. After that, she became a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Cheshire and a former communicant of Notre Dame Church in Adams. She enjoyed knitting sweaters and traveling. She and her husband, the late Cauldon C. "Jake" Cairns, visited Russia, Hawaii and the Netherlands, and traveled cross-country overland in Canada. They were married Sept. 22, 1945, in Notre Dame Church. He died Dec. 28, 1995. She leaves a son, Andrew C. Cairns of North Adams; two daughters, Claudette Wotkowicz of Adams and Carleen C. Butler of Cheshire; a sister, Jeanne Dumouchel of Agawam; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire for the life of Vitaline Yvette "Sunny" Cairns. Calling hours at McBRIDE'S FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., will be Monday from 4 to 6. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the Berkshire Humane Society, 108 Cadwell Road, Pittsfield, MA 0120, or through the funeral home. Mrs. Cairns was predeceased by two sisters, Jacqueline Remillard and Georgette Robouin. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Marie Cairns; two sons-in-law, Chester Wotkowicz and John Butler, and nieces and nephews.
