Arthur Walter Durwin

Arthur Walter Durwin, 77, of 1 Harmony St. died early yesterday morning at Williamstown Commons. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 29, 1925, son of Joseph J. and Jennie Benway Durwin, he attended Pittsfield schools. He lived in Lanesboro and North Adams until moving to Adams in 1974. Mr. Durwin was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. He was honorably discharged as a seaman first class in 1946. He was employed by General Electric Co. in the transportation department, first as a truck driver and then as foreman. He retired in 1977 with 31 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He and his wife, the former Veronica Witkowski Kondel, were married July 17, 1974. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Bruce Durwin of Pittsfield, Gerald Durwin of Roanoke, Va., and Joseph Durwin of Torrington, Conn.; two stepdaughters, Patricia Dean of Adams and Barbara Ferguson of Pittsfield; two stepsons, Michael Kondel and Paul Kondel, both of Adams; a sister, Dorothy Poulton of Lanesboro; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Arthur W. Durwin will be Tuesday at 9:15 from Auge-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of St. Stanislaus Kostka and Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Adams Ambulance Service, the Alert Hose Company or to a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and William Durwin.
