Lauri H. Hakulin

Lauri H. Hakulin, 83, a former resident of Ashley Falls, died Thursday at Laurel Hill Health Care Center in Winsted, Conn. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 13, 1920, he was the son of John and Jennie Marie Touhimaa Hakulin. He moved to Winsted about 40 years ago. He was an Army and Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Hakulin was a union carpenter for more than 50 years until his retirement. He worked on the Hartford (Conn.) Civic Center and on St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Torrington, Conn. He was a member of the Kehow Tribe of Redmen and enjoyed playing cards, pitching horseshoes and making furniture. He leaves two sons, Howard J. Hakulin Sr. of Torrington and Lauri G. Hakulin of Sheffield; a daughter, Angela Root of Winsted, and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lauri H. Hakulin, 83, will be tonight at 7 at Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut St., Winsted. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8. Memorial contributions may be made to Laurel Hill Health Care Center, 108 East Lake St., Winsted, CT 06098, in his memory. He was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Hakulin.
