George S. Demos

George S. Demos, 82, of 211 Northside Drive, Torrington, Conn., a native of Pittsfield, died Sunday at Wolcott Hall Nursing Facility after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 25, 1918, son of Samuel and Olga Gregory Demos, he graduated from local schools. Mr. Demos was employed by Berkshire Life Insurance Co. until 1942, when he enlisted in the Army. He served in England, France, Belgium and Germany, and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of first sergeant. After the war, he worked for Torin Manufacturing Co. for many years. Mr. Demos was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the Sullivan Senior Center. He and his wife, the former Margaret Ley, were married 58 years. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Margaret Demos; a brother, Peter Demos of Waterford, Conn.; two sisters, Sherry Wright of Pittsfield and Harriet Drivas of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a granddaughter; two step-granddaughters, and a step great-granddaughter.
