Fred Shaw

Fred Shaw, 66, of 7 Butler Road died Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Long Beach, Calif., on July 15, 1937, son of Raymond and Mary Feist Shaw, he grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1961. After he graduated, he became a restaurateur and businessman in Wichita, Kan., ultimately expanding his operations throughout the country. He retired in 1988. He and his wife, the former Gail Wadhams, were married on May 20, 1990, in Washington, Va. Together, they traveled throughout the country, choosing the Berkshires as their home. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, and an accomplished golfer, bridge player and chef who treated his friends and family to bountiful meals. He and his wife traveled the world playing golf, trying local cuisine and exploring the local culture. A skilled athlete throughout his life, he was involved with the basketball team at the University of Massachusetts, volunteering as a talent scout, consultant and booster. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, three daughters and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 at St. Joseph's Church, with the Rev. Steven F. McGuigan, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9:15 until time for the funeral. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to Housatonic Valley Association, P.O. Box 28, Cornwall Bridge, CT 06754-0028. The KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee is in charge of arrangements.
