Arthur Stavisky

Arthur Stavisky, 69, of Seekonk Road died yesterday at Timberlyn Heights, where he had been a resident for the past few weeks. Born in Chelsea on May 25, 1934, son of Reuben and Evelyn Fingold Stavisky, he grew up in Brookline and graduated from Brookline High School. He then graduated from Boston University and the Boston University School of Law. He moved to Great Barrington in 1964. He practiced law in Great Barrington for 40 years with the firm of Stavisky and Kelly L.L.P. He was a member of the Berkshire Bar, the Massachusetts Bar and the American Bar Association. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Conveyancers Association and was president of the National Academy of Elder Lawyers, Massachusetts Chapter. He was a 39-year member and past president of the Sheffield Kiwanis Club, a member of the Masonic Cincinnatus Lodge, AF & AM. He was active with the Council on Aging and served on the board of trustees for the Great Barrington Savings Bank. Mr. Stavisky was a member of the Congregation of Ahavath Sholom Synagogue, and a founding member and past president of Hevreh of Southern Berkshire. He was a 12-year volunteer for the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad and chairman of the Great Barrington Zoning Board of Appeals. He leaves his wife of 40 years, the former Judy Davidson, whom he married in 1963 in Woodbridge, Conn.; his daughter, Ronda Turpin of Georgetown, Texas; his son, Peter Stavisky of Shelton, Conn.; a sister, Marilyn Stavisky of Springfield, Va., and a granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Arthur Stavisky will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 11:30 at the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, with Rabbi Deborah Zecher officiating. Burial will follow in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 to 11 with a Masonic Service, conducted by members of the Cincinnatus Lodge, AF & AM, starting at 11. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Sheffield Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund, the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Fairview Hospital, the James P. Dohoney Scholarship Fund or the Frank B. Wright Scholarship Fund, through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
