Doris Loraine Charon

Doris Loraine Charon, 81, of 31 Grove St. died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she had been admitted Sept. 30. Born in Adams on Feb. 18, 1922, daughter of Emile and Virginia Belanger Richer, she attended the former Notre Dame School and Plunkett School and was a 1942 graduate of the former Adams High School. Mrs. Charon was employed as a secretary to the town's veterans' agent and had also worked for the town treasurer, retiring in 1984. Previously, she had worked at the former Adams Theater, former Arnold Print Works, Aladco and at the deli at the former Adams Supermarket, and at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Cheshire, and a former member of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. She enjoyed ocean cruises and trips to Europe, especially to Switzerland and Austria. She also enjoyed reading. She and her husband, William J. Charon, were married June 13, 1946, in Notre Dame Church in Adams. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, David L. Charon of Adams. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Doris Charon, who died Oct. 22, 2003, will be offered Saturday at 9 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire. Burial will follow in the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Arthritis Foundation and/or the American Cancer Society through the funeral home. She was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Aldor and "Benny" Richer. She leaves several nieces and nephews.
