Sophie Irene DelMasto, 85, formerly of Highland Street, Housatonic, died Saturday evening at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, where she had resided since May 2002. Born in Great Barrington on Sept. 16, 1918, daughter of Joseph and Antoinette Brunitska Yelen, she attended the former Searles High School. Mrs. DelMasto had been employed by Monument Mills in Housatonic and by Becton Dickinson & Co. in Canaan, Conn. She also was a seamstress for the former David Hats in Housatonic. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and working in her garden, surrounded by her flowers. Her husband, Louis M. DelMasto, whom she married Aug. 27, 1939, in New York City, died Jan. 15, 1995. She leaves six sons, John J. DelMasto of Old Bridge, N.J., Louis M. DelMasto Jr. and Richard T. Delmasto, both of Housatonic, Lawrence J. DelMasto of Ashley Falls, Peter R. DelMasto of Huntington and Anthony DelMasto of Nashua, N.H.; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Sophie DelMasto will be celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 10 at All Saints' Church in Housatonic by the Rev. Anthony Jutt. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. She also leaves her eight loving grandchildren, Christopher, Cashia, Michael, Christine, Michelle, Tiffany, Anthony and Tara, and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Emily.
