Isabella Bufis

Isabella Bufis, 91, of 310 Prospect St. died Friday evening at home. Born in Rodi Garganico, province of de Foggia, Italy, on April 12, 1912, daughter of Nicola and Maria Martella Mercurio, she was educated there. She came to the United States in 1946 after being separated from her husband, Valentino "Val" Bufis, for 10 years during the war. Mrs. Bufis worked as a seamstress for the former J.T. Owens Clothing Store and also did sewing in her home for a number of years. Her husband, whom she married Feb. 6, 1933, in Italy, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army, died March 26, 1996. She leaves a son, Michael J. Bufis of Lee; a daughter, Phyllis M. Hines of Framingham; a brother, Guiseppe Mercurio of Rome; a sister, Josephine Marino of Ducente, Italy; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two other sons, Nicholas Bufis in Italy in 1936, and Christopher Bufis in 1996. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Isabella Bufis, who died Oct. 31, 2003, will be Tuesday at 11:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at noon at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be tomorrow, Nov. 3, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the Lee Regional Visiting Nurses Association in care of the funeral home. She leaves her loving grandchildren, Jim, Brian and Naomi; her great-grandchild, Alexis; her devoted son-in-law, John, and her daughters-in-law, Sondra and Mary.
