Helen J. Bruneau

Helen J. Bruneau, 77, of 315 Devon Road died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Boston on Sept. 12, 1926, the daughter of Richard and Gladys MacDonald Marshall, she was a 1943 graduate of Saugus High School. After moving to Lee in 1974, she received an associate of arts degree from Berkshire Community College, a bachelor of arts cum laude in cultural anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master of arts in classical archaeology from the State University of New York in Albany. She was employed by Wheeler and Taylor Insurance Co. in Great Barrington, retiring in 1999. After retiring, she worked for McDonald's restaurant and was recently the recipient of their Pride Award for outstanding customer service. Before coming to Lee, she worked for the Air Force at Hanscom Field in Bedford and Space Rays Corp. in Burlington. Before that she worked for GE River Works in Lynn, and her first job was as an executive secretary for the John Hancock Insurance Co. She had a keen interest in archaeology and enjoyed travel to historical sites. She was an avid reader and collector of books and a lover of old movies. Her husband, Richard J. Bruneau, whom she married on June 19, 1955, died on Feb. 11, 1977. She leaves four sons, John M. Bruneau of Dedham, David R. Bruneau of Lee, Peter R. Bruneau of Lowell and James M. Bruneau of Cambridge; one daughter, Ainslie G. Bruneau of Napa, Calif.; one brother, Paul Marshall of Rochester, N.Y., and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Helen J. Bruneau will be Monday at 1:30 at the First Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours at the KELLY FUNERAL HOME will be Sunday from 3 to 6. Mrs. Bruneau treasured the time she spent with her family. She was devoted to her children and loved spending holidays and weekends with them. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren. She was the beloved grandmother of Isabelle and Richard.
