Joseph Edward Botz, 58, of 63 Balance Rock Road died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 26, 1944, son of Joseph and Irene Scherban Drozda Botz, he was a graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown. He served in the Army from 1962 to 1964. Mr. Botz was employed as a machinist for GE ordnance systems division and its successor, General Dynamics, in Pittsfield for 34 years, retiring in 1999. He had at one time been employed by the former E.D. Jones in Pittsfield. He was a member of GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and had been a division union steward. He was secretary of his bowling league, and enjoyed cabinet-making. He leaves his wife, the former Christina Lampiasi Fillion, whom he married July 9, 1983. Besides his wife, he leaves one son, Joseph R. Botz of Pittsfield; one daughter, Theresa M. Atherton of Pittsfield; a stepson, Michael P. Fillion of North Adams; one stepdaughter, Michele M. Roeder of Lanesboro; a sister, Ann Drozda of Lanesboro, and 12 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph Edward Botz, who died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, will be Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 9:15 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Nov. 4, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lanesboro Fire Department or the Lanesboro School Activity Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Mr. Botz was predeceased by a brother, Emil Drozda, and a sister, Natalie Kowchuk
