Ruth L. LaPier, 92
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Ruth Laura Bailey Baumann LaPier, 92, of 85 Eagle St. died Monday, Sept. 3, 2003, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she had been admitted Saturday.
Born on July 16, 1911, in Charleston, Vt., daughter of Clement and Nellie Taylor Sheltra, she moved to Pittsfield with her family when she was a year old, and to Hancock when she was 10. She attended Pittsfield High School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. LaPier had worked for two years at the former EB Estes factory and for Eaton, Crane & Pike Co. in Pittsfield for about a year.
She attended St. Anthony's Church. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Her first husband, Edward Bailey, whom she married May 4, 1929, died Aug. 19, 1934.
Her former husband, William Baumann, whom she married Jan. 12, 1935, in Dalton, is also deceased.
She leaves her husband, Rupert LaPier, whom she married Dec. 7, 1975; a daughter, Lelia B. "Lee" Beals of Dalton; a son, Douglas C. Baumann of Berry, Ky.; a stepson, Charles Elder of Burlington, Vt.; a sister, Viola Suprenant of North Adams; four grandchildren, Robert Mongue of Kennebunk, Maine, Lisa Mongue of Mystic, Conn., Doris Mongue and Denise White, both of Pittsfield, and three great-grandchildren, Seth Peto, and Justin and Ethan Mongue.
She was predeceased her daughter Velma White on Nov. 10, 1982 and her brother, Vernon Sheltra.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. LaPier will be Thursday, Nov. 6, at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 6.
