John A. Morris, 69

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — John Alexander Morris, 69, of 1935 Mohawk Trail died Monday, March 26, 2001, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted on March 4. Death followed a brief illness. A longtime member of the Northern Berkshire business community, Mr. Morris was the owner of the Golden Eagle Restaurant at the Hairpin Turn on Route 2. Born in Clarksburg on Dec. 29, 1931, son of John Alexander and Kathryn V. Currant Morris, he was educated in Clarksburg schools and the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams. He was employed as an iron worker for more than 30 years as a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 12 of Albany, N.Y. He retired in 1996. In 1980, he purchased the Golden Eagle Restaurant and operated it with his family until his death. He leaves his wife of 51 years, the former Lynn Elizabeth Champagny, whom he married May 31, 1949, in Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; two daughters, Kathryn L. Gagne of North Adams and Elizabeth L. Pugliese of Clarksburg; two sons, John T. Morris and James A. Morris, both of North Adams; two brothers, William J. Morris of Clarksburg and Owen Morris of Williamstown; two grandchildren, Michael R. Gagne and Alicia Daniels, and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Donald "Ski" Morrison Sept. 2, 1990. FUNERAL NOTICE — Services will take place Friday, March 30, 2001, at 9:45 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, with the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will take place in Clarksburg Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, are Thursday from 4 to 8. Memorial donations are suggested for the Renal Unit of the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
