Sally W. Walker

Sally W. Walker, 89, of Canaan, N.Y., died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass. Born in Albany on Dec. 25, 1911, daughter of Howard G. and Mary Louise Davis Wild, she attended local schools. She also attended Simmons College and Bryant Stratton Institute. During the 1930s, she was employed by the Columbia County Department of Social Services. Later she worked at her father's print shop in Valatie and the Canaan post office, where she served as postmaster from 1971 to 1973, when she retired. Mrs. Walker was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canaan Protective Fire Company and served as chairwoman for its many buffet dinners. She also served as a board member of the Chatham Central School. She was a transplanter for Herbs Greenhouse in Canaan. She leaves her husband, Sylvester E. "Bill" Walker; two sisters, David W. Walker of Wellesley, Mass., and Richard A. Walker of Rhinebeck; three sisters, Barbara Gregoire of Chicago, Janice M. Dee of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Vivian M. Le-brecht of Lake Park, Fla., and seven grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday from 7 to 9 at FRENCH, GIFFORD & PREITER FUNERAL HOME, Chatham, where funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 1 by the Rev. Dale Hall, pastor of Flatbrook Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the Canaan Protective Fire Company.
