Alvia F. Diamond

Alvia F. Diamond, 79, of Madden Road died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Dalton, Mass., on Jan. 18, 1922, son of Martin E. and Madeline M. Hart Diamond, he resided in the Stephentown/New Lebanon area and attended New Lebanon schools. Mr. Diamond was employed by Thomas Ford in New Lebanon and Scyffer Ford in Pittsfield, Mass., as a service technician, retiring in the late 1970s due to illness. He also operated his own sawmill and was a self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and making items out of wood. His wife, the former Birdella Mae Brazie, whom he married Nov. 22, 1969, in Stephentown Federated Church, died Nov. 17, 1996. He leaves a son, Fred W. Diamond of Stephentown; two daughters, Yvonne M. Diamond of Stephentown and Bonnie Lehmuth of West Lebanon, a sister, Bernadette Schmich of Stephentown; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Greg and Ted Hoffman, Laura Diamond, Corey and Kyle Lehmuth, and a great-granddaughter, Katielynn Hoffman. Funeral services will be Friday at 3 p.m. from HALL & HIGGINS FUNERAL HOME, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, where the Rev. Trygve Tomlinson will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at Garfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Stephentown Baptist Church in his memory.
