Verna Petri, 77
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Verna Petri, 77, of 546 Union St. died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at North Adams Commons, where she had been admitted Oct. 21.
Born in North Adams on May 5, 1926, daughter of Richard and Agnes Moreau Mirke, she was a 1943 graduate of Drury High School. She earned an associate's degree from Becker Junior College in 1945.
Mrs. Petri had been employed for 17 years as executive secretary to the corporate director of advertising and information services at the former Sprague Electric Co. until it closed. Previously, she had worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Edward J. Coughlin Jr. in Williamstown.
She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church.
Her husband, John J. Petri, whom she married Feb. 3, 1951, died Oct. 5, 1967.
She leaves two sons, John M. "Jay" Petri of Clarksburg and Gregg T. Petri of Springfield; a daughter, Melissa Johnston of Lovettsville, Va.; a brother, Richard Mirke of Clarksburg; a sister, Marlene Tanner of Clarksburg, and three grandchildren, Allison Petri of Clarksburg, Katelyn Johnston of Lovettsville and Bianca Petri of Ludlow, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Petri will be Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 9 at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
