Paul Vincent Hagen

Paul Vincent Hagen, 93, of 2 Rowe Road died yesterday at Fairview Commons Nursing Center in Great Barrington. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 28, 1910, son of Arthur and Catherine Adams Hagen, he was a graduate of Brooklyn High School. He was a summer resident of Lake Buel since 1952. He was last employed as a custodian for the Great Barrington post office from 1978 to 1988. He had also worked for Western Electric Co. for 10 years and as a firefighter for the New York Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington and the Knights of Columbus in New York City. His first wife, the former Marion Creagh, died March 24, 1986. He leaves his wife, the former Rita Pusterla Real, whom he married June 17, 1988; a daughter, Ellen McDermott of Great Barrington; three sons, Paul Hagen of Forked River, N.J., Peter Hagen of Long Valley, N.J., and Kevin Hagen of Valatie, N.Y.; two stepsons, John Real of Lanesboro and Brian Real of Anchorage, Alaska; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Paul V. Hagen, who died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, will be Saturday, Dec. 20, at 10 at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Daniel Papineau, M.I.C., pastor of St. Peter's Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy in Paul's memory may be made to the N.Y. City Firefighter's Widow and Orphans Fund, c/o the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He was predeceased by a grandson, Luke McDermott, who died July 24, 1987.
