William B. Salinetti

William B. Salinetti, 88, of 275 Fairview St. died Thursday at the Village at Laurel Lake, where he had resided for three years. Born in Lee on Oct. 30, 1915, son of Abbondio and Angelina Bartini Salinetti, he was educated in Lee schools and was a 1933 graduate of Lee High School, where he was class president. He then attended the Albany (N.Y.) College of Engineering. He worked as an insurance agent in the Lee area for the John Hancock Insurance Co. from 1943 until he retired in 1977. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, former member and past president of the Lee Kiwanis Club, former member of the Berkshire Hills Council 314 Knights of Columbus, former Lee assessor, member of Greenock Country Club in Lee and former member of the Cranwell Golf Club. He was on the commission for the construction of St. Mary's School and of Lee High School in the 1950s and 1960s. He was also a former member of the G. Marconi Lodge 1620 Sons of Italy. He coached in the Lee Babe Ruth League and was an active bowler. In the 1950s, he played semipro softball for the Lee Sons of Italy. His wife, the former Dorothy H. Shaver, whom he married Oct. 16, 1939, died Jan. 20, 1997. He leaves four sons, William B. Salinetti Jr. and Richard T. Salinetti, both of Lee, Charles H. Salinetti of Dalton and Peter J. Salinetti of Colonie, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary Jane Summers of Orlando, Fla., and Christine Colban of Baltimore; one sister, Rita S. Moser of Lee; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be Monday at 9:15 from the KELLY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Lee Kiwanis Scholarship Fund or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Amy, William III, Kathleen, Peter, Lisa, Terri, James, Michael, Jeffrey, Cara, Joseph, Daniel, Michael, Jill, Susie, Patrick, Rebecca, Matthew, John and Thomas; his beloved great-grandchildren, Charlie, Jack and Spencer; his devoted daughters-in-law, Bobbie Anne, Judy, Irene and Darinda; his sons-in-law, Dana and Robert. He was predeceased by his sisters, Josephine Bettaga and Mary Consolati.
