Arthur J. Magner

Arthur J. Magner, 90, of 24 James St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 7, 1913, son of John and Katherine Clary Magner, he was a 1930 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. He had resided on James Street for 16 years. Mr. Magner had been em-ployed by GE in the power transformer division for 40 years, retiring in 1976. He also had worked at the former Rice Silk Mill. He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed following the Red Sox and reading. He and his wife, the former Amelia "Marky" Marketonis, were married May 29, 1954, in St. Charles' Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Mark A. Magner of Bradenton, Fla., and two brothers, Robert Magner and John Magner, both of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Arthur J. "Art" Magner, who died Dec. 28, 2003, will be today, Dec. 31, at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 in St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Mr. Magner also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis and Richard Magner, and by a sister, Cecile Bercury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
