Madeline S. Coles

Madeline S. Coles, 80, formerly of Tyringham Road, died Wednesday morning at the home of her daughter, Sandra Dunn of Lee. Born in New Marlboro on Sept. 16, 1923, daughter of Raymond and Cecil Stanard Huggins, she was a 1942 graduate of the former Mill River High School. She moved to Lee in 1946. She had been employed at Howes Jewelry Store in Lee from 1963 to 1985. She also worked part time at the former England Brothers department store in Pittsfield and at the Rising Paper Co. in Housatonic for a short time. She and her husband, Albert E. Coles, operated the Cone Park Greenhouse on Tyringham Road from 1955 until 1994. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Her husband, whom she married June 19, 1943, died March 31, 1997. Besides her daughter, she leaves another daughter, Mary Ann Simmons of Lee; two sisters, Doris Pincus of Egremont and Carrie Berry of Lenox; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:15 from the KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make memorial donations to the Lee Regional VNA in care of the funeral home. Madeline S. Coles is survived by her six grandchildren, Michael Heath, Kelly Devarennes, Gary Todd Heath, Peter Scott Simmons, Cory R. Heath and Craig M. Simmons, and her two sons-in-law, Peter Simmons and David Dunn.
