Lillian M. Thompson

Lillian M. Thompson, 85, of Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan, Conn., formerly of Great Barrington, died Sunday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Southbridge on June 10, 1918, daughter of Elmer and E. Louise Hellner Smith, she graduated in 1937 from Mary E. Wells High School there. She resided in Quinebaug, Conn., from 1941 until moving to Great Barrington in 1998 to be closer to her family. Mrs. Thompson was employed by Russell Harrington Cutlery in Southbridge for 48 years, retiring in 1986. A 70-year member of Central Baptist Church in Southbridge, she was active in church functions, served on various committees and organizations, and was a deaconess for several years. She enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing, embroidery, rug braiding, cooking, traveling and gardening. After her retirement, she was a volunteer in the gift shop at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge. Her husband, Earl H. Thompson, died Jan. 9, 1982. She leaves two sons, Harvey H. Thompson of New Marlboro and Clifton H. Thompson of Manchester, Conn.; a daughter, Patricia L. Carney of Bear, Del.; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lillian M. Thompson, who died Jan. 18, 2004, will be Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10 at Central Baptist Church, 256 Main St., Southbridge. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, 256 Main St., Southbridge, MA 01550, or to a charity of one's choice. BELANGER-BULLARD FUNERAL HOME, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements. Mrs. Thompson also leaves four grandchildren, Scott, Christopher, Kimberly and Bret Thompson, and her beloved great-granddaughter, Lauren Thompson.
