Jennie Calderella

Jennie L. Calderella, 96, formerly of 236 Connecticut Ave., died Monday at Craneville Place in Dalton, where she had resided since 1997. Born in Easton, Pa., on Sept. 8, 1904, daughter of Giuseppe and Maria Antonia Zarcone Lachina, she moved to Pittsfield at age 6 and attended local schools. Prior to her marriage in 1925, she was employed by several woolen mills in Pittsfield. A communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mrs. Calderella was a former member of its Holy Rosary Society and was a former officer for the society. A former member of the Golden Agers, she enjoyed crocheting and reading. Her husband, Joseph L. Calderella Sr., whom she married Sept. 7, 1925, died March 8, 1990. She leaves a son, Joseph L. Calderella Jr. of Pittsfield; two daughters, Antoinette M. Gomes and Lorita A. Decorie, both of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Loving grandmother of Stephen Gomes, Lorita Copley, Melinda Lordan, Joseph Calderella III, Gina Farrell, Jacqueline Decorie and Kristen Guthrie. Loving great-grandmother of Daniel Gomes, Laura Gomes, Carolyn Gomes, Michaela Copley, Shane Copley, Kendall Copley, Jonathan Farrell and Connor Lordan. Predeceased by a beloved grandson, Christopher Gomes. Funeral services will take place Friday, April 6, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, C.S.S., pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home will be Thursday, April 5, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mount Carmel Church Organ Fund in care of the funeral home.
