Martin L. Lasker

Martin L. Lasker, 72, of Iroquois Avenue and Sarasota, Fla., died Feb. 12 at the Moffitt Cancer Center Hospital in Tampa, Fla. Born in New York City on Jan. 26, 1932, son of Abraham and Fannie Schless Lasker, he attended city schools and graduated from Pratt Institute in 1956. He moved to Becket 20 years ago and had spent winters in Sarasota for three years. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was an artist, writer and industrial designer who was former executive vice president with Hansen Industries, where he worked in the architectural lighting division. He leaves his wife, Barbara Shapiro Lasker. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Jennifer L. White of Grafton; a son, Eric Lasker of Arlington, Va.; a sister, Rosalie Olds of Worcester, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be a memorial service for Martin Lasker, who died Feb. 12, 2004, today at Heritage Oaks Club House in Sarasota, Fla., from 3 to 5. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marty Lasker Fund at the Becket Arts Center, Main Street, Becket, MA 01223. NATIONAL CREMATION SOCIETY, Sarasota Chapter, is in charge of cremation arrangements.
