Jacquelyn Cobden

Jacquelyn Cobden, 69, of Sheffield Road, South Egremont, died Friday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in New York City on April 6, 1934, daughter of Aloysious J. and Jeannette Adams Baird Creighton, she grew up in Mahwah, N.J., and graduated from Ramsey High School. She also had resided in Suffern, N.Y., before moving to South Egremont in 1982. Mrs. Cobden worked as an accountant for a number of companies, including Cobden and Associates Insurance Brokers, later Hagedorn and Cobden, in Elmsford, N.Y. She was active in the community, serving on the boards of Southern Berkshire Elderly Transportation Corp., the Council on Aging and First Congregational Church. She volunteered at the Senior Center and was a benefactor of a number of organizations serving the elderly and needy. She was trained as a pilot and enjoyed traveling. She was an honorary alumna of her husband's Kent (Conn.) School class of 1941. While in Suffern, she was active with the Antrim Players. Her husband, Richard Cobden III, whom she married Oct. 18, 1968, died May 18, 1996. She leaves two stepdaughters, Karen C. Bristol of Wrentham and Sarah M. Cobden of Southbury, Conn.; three sisters, Jean C. Cook of Montgomery, N.Y., Claire C. Westlake of West Melbourne, Fla., and Ann C. DiTore Callahan of Mahwah, N.J.; a brother, Baird Creighton of Houston, and two stepgrandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Jacquelyn Creighton Cobden, who died Feb. 13, 2004, will be held at First Congregational Church of South Egremont in March on a date to be determined. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Southern Berkshire Elderly Transportation Corp., the American Cancer Society or to an organization of the donor's choosing through FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is handling arrangements.
