Fredric Richard Dellea

Fredric Richard Dellea, 71, of North Adams died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a battle with lung cancer. Born in North Egremont on April 4, 1932, son of John G. and Mary G. Morandi Dellea, he was a 1950 graduate of Searles High School in Great Barrington. Mr. Dellea served with the Air Force as an airman first class during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged March 31, 1956. He received the National Defense Service and German Occupation medals. He worked for Berkshire Community Action Council as a driver until December 2003. Prior to that, he worked in restaurant management for McDonald's in Pittsfield and Hardees in Spartanburg, S.C., and Jacksonville, Fla. He owned and operated the A&W drive-in restaurant in Pittsfield from 1975 to 1979. He later worked as a machinist for Custom Extrusion in Sheffield until retiring in 1997. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He was also a John Wayne enthusiast. He leaves his wife, the former Barbara A. Moran; a daughter, Dawn Marie Dellea of Pittsfield; three sisters, Hazel and Madeline Dellea, both of Pittsfield, and Margaret Camprini of Hudson, Fla. He is also survived by his former wife, Irene R. McNamara Dellea of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Fredric R. Dellea, 71, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004. Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. Private funeral services will be held Feb. 19, 2004, with the Rev. Peter Gregory, officiating. A burial with military honors will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Great Barrington, MA. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Eileen Barrett Cancer Center in care of the funeral home. He was predeceased by a brother, John, and a sister, Agnes Bastedo.
