Francis N. Young, 93

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Francis Napoleon Young, 93, of 69 Williams St., died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at his home. Death followed a brief illness. Born in Poultney, Vt., on Sept. 20, 1907, a son of Phillas and Mary LaPlante Young, he was educated in Poultney schools and graduated from the Troy Conference Academy, now Green Mountain College in Poultney. He moved to North Adams in 1932. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a first class petty officer with the 122nd Battalion of the Seabees. Mr. Young was employed with James Hunter Machine Co. in North Adams for 39 years, retiring in 1973 as foreman of the sheet metal shop. He was a communicant of St Francis of Assisi Church of North Adams and a member of the James Hunter Quarter Century Club and Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. He leaves his wife of 64 years, the former Evelyn E. Plankey, whom he married on Sept. 7, 1936, in Notre Dame du Sucre Coeur Church of North Adams, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. His only son, Robert F. Young, died Jan. 10, 2000. He was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers, including Mae Greenough, Lucille Campbell, Marguerite Pecott Sister Mary Assunta (formerly Irene Young), Charles Young, Ernest Young and Leo Young. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Young wi11 take place Saturday, April 7, at 8:15 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals-WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 from St. Francis of Assisi Church North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. North Adams. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, are Friday, April 6, from 4 to 6. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are suggested for the St. Francis Building Fund or Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
