Frances E. Chapman

Frances E. Chapman, 87, of 600 Main St. died Saturday at Craneville Place. Born in Pittsfield on March 1, 1916, daughter of William and Minnie Connelly Thode, she attended Pittsfield schools. Mrs. Chapman was employed by A.H. Rice Co. as a machine operator for 23 years, retiring in 1981. She volunteered for many years in the radiology department and gift shop at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Her husband, George H. Chapman, whom she married Sept. 1, 1946, died March 16, 1990. She leaves two daughters, Lois DeGiorgis of Dalton and Donna Crawford of the town of Florida; a son, Gerald Rattigan of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Frances E. Chapman, who died Feb. 22, 2004, will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Ashuelot Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Dalton Ambulance Fund in care of BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Survivors include three nieces. Mrs. Chapman was predeceased by a sister, Isabelle Harris.
