Virginia Hannigan

Virginia M. Hannigan, 78, of 53 Winship Ave. died Saturday afternoon at Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 28, 1922, daughter of Frank and Lucy Driscoll Weir, she was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mrs. Hannigan was employed as a secretary at General Electric Co. and later was executive secretary at Pittsfield High School, retiring in 1980 after 25 years of service. A communicant of St. Charles' Church, she was a volunteer at Tanglewood for 20 years and served as an usher for the Boston Symphony Orchestra concerts. She enjoyed vacationing at her winter home in Bradenton and playing bridge. Her husband, Llewellyn P. Hannigan Sr., whom she married Aug. 16, 1941, in St. Joseph's Church, died Oct. 29, 2000. She leaves three sons, Llewellyn P. Hannigan Jr. of Marlton, N.J., Thomas W. Hannigan of Brunswick, N.Y., and Timothy A. Hannigan of Pittsfield; a daughter, Maureen A. McMahon of Alexandria, Va.; three sisters, Ann Williams and Joyce Kalinowski, both of Pittsfield, and Mary Dwyer of Charleston, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be TUESDAY from 4 to 7. The funeral will be WEDNESDAY at 9:15 from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
