Elaine B. Moffatt

Elaine B. Moffatt, 81, a native and lifelong resident, died Sunday at North West Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. Born in West Stockbridge on Aug. 4, 1922, daughter of Earl M. and Edna Seeger Baldwin, she attended local schools and graduated from the former Williams High School in Stockbridge. She then graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She had recently served as fund chairwoman, class of 1944, for the college. She was a private school kindergarten teacher in Richmond and had been associated with Pricilla's Bridal Design in Boston. Then she taught home economics at Searles School for more than 20 years for the Berkshire Hills Regional School District. She and her husband also owned and operated the Charles H. Baldwin & Sons store in West Stockbridge, which was started by her grandfather and great-grandfather in 1888. It is currently run by her son, Earl Moffatt, and his wife, Jackie. She was a lifelong member of the West Stockbridge Congregational Church where she also taught Sunday school for many years. While in Tucson, she attended The Church of The Painted Hills UCC. She leaves her husband, C. Richard Moffatt, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October 2003. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Craig Milton Moffatt of Stockbridge, Earl Baldwin Moffatt of West Stockbridge and Miles Harvey Moffatt of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Tricia Moffatt Gans of Golden, Colo., and Melissa Moffatt Ferrerra of Saratoga, and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service will be held in April for Elaine Baldwin Moffatt, who died Feb. 15, 2004, at a time to be announced at the West Stockbridge Cemetery. She leaves her husband, C. Richard Moffatt, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary along with their whole family this past October; three sons, Craig, Earl and Miles Moffatt; two daughters, Tricia and Melissa, and seven grandchildren, Sara, Mika and Max Gans, Daniel Ferrara, Hillary and Samantha Moffatt, Leigh Norton Moffatt, and her cousin, Arthur W. Baldwin II and his wife Jean of West Stockbridge. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles F. Baldwin. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.
