Francis S. Urbanek

Francis S. Urbanek, 83, of 227 Franklin St. died Saturday at home. Born in Adams on Sept. 3, 1920, son of Frank and Veronica Szetela Urbanek, he was a 1937 graduate of the former Adams High School. He also was a graduate of Rensselaer (N.Y.) Polytechnic Institute. He moved to North Adams in 1983. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps. Mr. Urbanek was employed as a mechanical engineer at GE in Pittsfield for more than 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. His wife, the former Anne C. Michalski, whom he married April 11, 1964, died Oct. 27, 1999. He leaves a daughter, Teresa A. Prezioso of Wilmington; a sister, Monica Wojcik of Adams, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Francis S. Urbanek will be Thursday, March 4, at 9:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Adams by the Rev. Jed Sumampong, CP. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus' School or to the Felician Sisters of Enfield, Conn., through the funeral home. He leaves two grandchildren, Kendra and Anthony Prezioso, both of Wilmington, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Sister Mary Aniela, CSSF (Victoria Urbanek), and by two brothers, Casimere and Aloysius Urbanek.
