Stanley E. Stachura

Stanley E. Stachura, 74, of 37 Leonard St. died Sunday evening at home, following a two-year battle with cancer. Born in Adams on May 8, 1929, son of Joseph and Clara Gawron Stachura, he was a 1957 graduate of Drury High School in North Adams. An Army veteran, he was a member of the 966th Engineering Battalion, where he was an interpreter in Stuttgart, Germany. He served from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War. Mr. Stachura had been employed by GE in Pittsfield in the distribution transformer division for 10 years and the naval ordnance division, where he was an inspector of guided missiles. He retired in 1989 after 32 years of service. Prior to that, he worked by the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates. He was a communicant of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and St. Stanislaus. He was a member of Disabled Veterans of America and the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriff's Association. He wintered in Florida, where he was a member of the Pasco, Fla., deputy sheriffs in the county. He and his wife, the former Rosemarie Demastrie, vice chairman of the Adams Finance Committee, were married June 30, 1956 in St. Thomas Aquinas. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Dr. David W. Stachura of Palm Springs, Calif.; a daughter, Linda Sue Miller of Gloucester, and three sisters, Freida T. Zepka of Adams, Elaine Bouchard of Batavia, Ill., and Joan Bashara of East Hartford, Conn. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Stanley Stachura's life on Thursday at 2 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church with the Rev. Jed Sumampong, C.P., as celebrant. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home, which is in charge of arrangements. He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Tadeuz Stachura, and a sister, Daisy Jurczyk.
