Raymond R. Delmolino

Raymond R. Delmolino, 85, of 104 Mount Washington Road, owner and operator of Raymond Delmolino Excavating Co., died Thursday at home. Born in Cheshire on June 17, 1915, son of Edward and Elizabeth Botacchi Delmolino, he moved to Sheffield as a child and attended the former Sheffield High School. He moved to South Egremont in 1943 and to Mount Washington Road in 1955. Mr. Delmolino and his partner, William Potvin, built Beech Tree Commons on Silver Street in Great Barrington. He also operated a bus transportation company for Berkshire School and the Southern Berkshire Regional School District, and owned and operated the former Mobil Service Station on Main Street from 1943 to 1961. He served as a deputy sheriff under Sheriff John Courtney and was a former Egremont fire chief. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto racing and playing cards. He and his wife, the former Maria Bignal, were married Oct. 18, 1941, at Our Lady of the Valley Church, Sheffield. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Patricia Hughes of New Marlboro, Holly Johnson of Clearwater, Fla., and Jean Massini of Sheffield; three brothers, John Delmolino and Edward Delmolino Sr., both of Sheffield, and Bruno Delmolino of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Jean McCarthy of Canaan, Conn., and four grandchildren. The funeral will be private, with burial at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of HICKEY-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 5 to 8. Mr. Delmolino leaves four grandchildren, Timothy Hughes, Lancing Broderick, and Taylor and Layne Johnson. He was predeceased by two brothers, Aldo and Alio Delmolino, and a sister, Dalena Delmolino.
