Michael R. McGuire

Michael R. McGuire, 52, of Salisbury Road died yesterday at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester following a long illness. Born in Great Barrington on June 19, 1951, son of Irene Erickson McGuire Blackwelder of Pacific Grove, Calif., and the late George McGuire, he was a 1969 graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the 9th squadron, 1st Cavalry, 1st Division. He received a number of decorations and campaign medals, including the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm. A chef, Mr. McGuire was employed at Limey's Restaurant until leaving because of poor health. He also had worked at the former Painted Lady restaurant for more than 10 years and at the former Caesar's Shed Restaurant. He was a member of James A. Modolo Post 8348 VFW in Great Barrington. He enjoyed playing golf and watching the horses at Saratoga Race Course in New York state. He and his wife, the former Lyn Pepino, were married April 5, 1986, in Lenox. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves a stepson, Toby Zucco of Great Barrington; his stepmother, Lois VanCleef of Ashley Falls; three sisters, Linda Brinker of Great Barrington, Michele Palmer of Sheffield and Beth Olivas of Hardwick, N.Y.; a brother, Patrick McGuire of Housatonic, and a stepgranddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Michael R. McGuire of Sheffield, who died March 8, 2004, will be conducted tomorrow, March 11, at 11 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, Great Barrington, by the Rev. Arthur Kaufman, pastor of Old Parish Church, Sheffield. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Great Barrington. The family will receive friends today, March 10, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. He is survived by his step-granddaughter, Taylor Zucco, and his mother-in-law, Audrey Pepino, both of Great Barrington, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
