Sam Blachinsky

Sam Blachinsky, 90, of 38 East Road and Renaissance Gardens, 16565 Northeast 4th Ave., North Miami Beach, Fla., died yesterday morning at his Florida home. Born in New York City on July 1, 1913, son of Jacob and Sarah Polansky Blachinsky, he attended schools in New York, graduating from Seward Park High School. He moved to Adams in 1976. Mr. Blachinsky founded Better Wear Manufacturing Co. in New York, which he owned and operated for many years, retiring in 1975. He was first employed in the dry goods business, and later worked at the Price Chopper supermarket in Pittsfield for about six years after his retirement. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel in North Adams. He was a "Kohen," a descendant of a priestly family. His wife, the former Helen Kogut, whom he married Oct. 30, 1948, died May 25, 1983. He leaves a brother, Louis Bland of Brooklyn, N.Y. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside committal services and burial for Sam Blachinsky, who died March 10, 2004, will be conducted Friday at 10 at the family plot in Beth Israel Cemetery in Clarksburg, by Rabbi Jeffrey Goldwasser, spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Israel. There will be no calling hours. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include nieces and nephews Marty Bland, Steve Bland, Howard Bland and Audrey Lebowitz. His brothers Irving and Al Bland are deceased.
