William Charles Hanke

William Charles Hanke, 73, of 213 East Road died early yesterday morning at home. Born in Adams on Sept. 11, 1930, son of Walter and Eva Perreault Hanke, he attended schools there. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served as a machine gunner with the 45th Infantry Division in Korea and Japan. Mr. Hanke was employed for 26 years as an offset pressman at Excelsior Printing Co. in North Adams, retiring in 1996. Earlier, he had worked at Adams Specialty & Printing Co. and at the former Arnold Print Works. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He leaves his wife, the former Mildred J. Kryston, whom he married Sept. 7, 1955; two sons, Michael A. Hanke of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bruce W. Hanke of Norfolk, Conn.; a sister, Marie Grande of Adams, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for William C. Hanke, who died March 13, 2004, will be conducted Tuesday at 10 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and St. Stanislaus Kostka. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, March 15, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home. He leaves his four grandchildren, Madeline and Marshall Hanke of Brooklyn, and Henry and Charlie Hanke of Norfolk, Conn.
