Fred E. Strelin

Fred E. Strelin, 79, of 286 Onota St. died April 9 at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on March 15, 1922, son of Karol and Rose Rosenburg Strelin, he was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was employed as a welder in the power transformer department of GE. He retired in 1984 after 44 years of service. Mr. Strolin was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, the Ralph Froio Senior Center, the Golden Seniors, the traveling seniors' AARP Chapter 159, the Quality Time Club and the Berkshire Knapsackers. He was an active participant in the Fourth of July Parade Senior Center float and the yearly Greylock Ramble. His wife, the former Dolores Paoli, whom he married April 15, 1944, died March 18, 1994. He leaves a son, David F. Strelin of Pittsfield; two daughters, Amba Jean Kelton of Portland, Ore., and Irene Forde of North Weymouth; a brother, George Strelin of Orange; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. A daughter, Jean Marie Strelin, died March 25, 1959. The funeral will be Wednesday, April 18, at 11:30 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, CSS, pastor of Mount Carmel Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 9 until the 11:30 service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ralph Froio Senior Center or to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Organ Fund in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
