John A. Zaloga

John A. Zaloga, 79, of 85 Pine St., Frostburg, Md., a native and longtime resident of Adams, died March 2 at his home. Born in Adams on March 12, 1924, son of Caroline Janik Zaloga of Williamstown and the late Frank Zaloga, he attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams High School in 1942. He was a star athlete on the Adams High baseball and basketball teams, and also played semipro basketball with the former Adams Saints. He had lived in Maryland since November of last year. Mr. Zaloga was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 2nd Battalion, 393rd Engineer Special Services Regiment in France and England, until his honorable discharge. Following the war, he worked at the former Arnold Print Works in Adams as a printer, and later as a foreman in the roller printer division, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion. Besides his mother, he leaves his wife, the former Muriel Desautels, whom he married on July 4, 1949; three sons, Steven Zaloga of Abingdon, Md., and Tony Zaloga and Daniel Zaloga, both of Frostburg, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Jack Zaloga, in 1980. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside committal service will be held Saturday, April 10, at 11 in Maple Street Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Moulton, permanent deacon of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas-St. Stanislaus, will officiate. There are no calling hours. AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Colleen Taylor Zaloga of Frostburg, Md.; two grandchildren, Nick and Krysta Zaloga of Frostburg, and an uncle, Stanley Janik of Adams. He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Dobrowolski.
