Richard H. Guettler

Richard H. Guettler, 68, of 12 East Orchard Terrace died yesterday morning at home after a prolonged illness. Born in Adams on Feb. 1, 1936, son of George J. Guettler Jr. and Gladys E. Orr Guettler, he was a 1954 graduate of the former Adams High School. He graduated with a degree in pharmacological science from the Hampden School of Pharmacy. Mr. Guettler joined his father in the operation of McKinley Square Drug Store in 1968, and was owner of the business from 1970 until selling it to Brooks Pharmacy in 1982. He retired from Brooks in 1994.He had first worked at the Allendale Pharmacy from 1958 to 1962, and then Mack Drugs, both in Pittsfield. He was a director of the Adams Cooperative Bank from 1969 to 1998, when he retired as chairman of the board, and a member of its Security Committee. He participated in the drug awareness program in local schools. A member of Trout Unlimited, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also was an incorporator of North Adams Regional Hospital and a member of the National Rifle Association. He and his wife, the former Patricia A. Lord, were married June 13, 1959, in Notre Dame Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Richard L. Guettler of Adams; two daughters, Pamela Bissaillon of Adams and Hollie J. Converse of Lanesboro, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered in celebration of the life of Richard H. Guettler, who died March 22, 2004, on Thursday, March 25, at 10 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, March 24, from 4 to 7 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME. The family suggests donations to the Notre Dame Parish Fund; flowers also will be accepted. He leaves his daughter-in-law, Deanna; two sons-in-law, David Bissaillon and Thomas Converse, and grandchildren Christopher and Lisa Corkins, Tyler Bissaillon, and Kimberlee and Kelsey L. Guettler.
