Vera V. Flood

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Vera V. Flood, 95, of 999 Massachusetts Ave., died Friday, March 19, 2004, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted on March 14.
Born in North Adams on April 14, 1908, daughter of Cyrus P. and Claire Ferguson Isbell, she graduated in 1925 from Drury High School, where she played the saxophone in the school's first band, which performed at the White House in 1925. She was honored at the 80th reunion of the band on May 31, 2003. She earned her bachelor of science in physical education in 1928 from Arnold College in New Haven, Conn.
Mrs. Flood was a physical education teacher at the former Adams High School before her marriage.
She was a member of many organizations, including the North Adams Travel Club and North Adams and the Taconic country clubs. She was a volunteer gray lady at the hospital and treasurer of the Northern Berkshire Arts Council. She was a talented silversmith and an avid bridge player.
Her husband, George M. Flood, whom she married Dec. 14, 1935, died Aug. 10, 1957.
She leaves two sons, G. Alan Flood and his wife, Cecelia Arguidas, of Hobe Sound, Fla., and Perry J. Flood and his wife, Bette, of Lee; three daughters, Judith Ann Hawthorne of Churchville, N.Y.; Rachel I. Branch of North Adams, with whom she made her home, and Ruth Teichert of Stuart, Fla., 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL HOME — A memorial service for Mrs. Flood will be held Monday, March 22, at 10 at St. John's Episcopal Church, Park Street, Williamstown. Friends may call at her home, 999 Massachusetts Ave., on Sunday, March 21, from 2 to 4.
