Robert B. Franklin

Robert B. Franklin, 90, of South Egremont and 430 East 56th St., New York City, died at home in New York on March 13. Born in Jamaica Plain on Feb. 14, 1914, son of George and Lucy Jenkins Franklin, he graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton and from Williams College. He resided in Ispwich from 1943 to 1963, and moved to South Egremont in 1971. Mr. Franklin was a former vice president of GTE Sylvania in Ipswich and business manager of Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a member of the Wyantenuck Country Club and a Red Sox fan. While in Ipswich, he was chairman of the school committee and served on the Board of Selectman. He leaves his wife, the former Jane Arnold; two sons, R. Bruce Franklin Jr. of Hawthorn, N.J., and Peter W. Franklin of Amesbury; two daughters, Betsy Ignacio of Ponciana, Fla., and Jody Burrows of Westwood, N.J., 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Robert B. Franklin, who died March 13, 2004, will be held May 8 in South Egremont Congregational Church. Contributions in Mr. Franklin's memory may be made to the Wyantenuck Country Club for the Bob Franklin Fund for the enhancement of the golf course.
