Evelyn M. Miner

Evelyn M. Miner, 85, of 14 Balance Rock Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 30, 1918, daughter of Waldo and Mae Welch Barnes, she was a 1936 graduate of the former Central High School. She also graduated from a secretarial school. She moved to Lanesboro in 1960. Mrs. Miner was employed as an executive secretary for Monsignors Hutchins, Babillas and Moran at the former Pittsfield General Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1980. Prior to that, she worked at the former England Brothers Department Store as a seamstress and then as a secretary. She was a member of Berkshire Union Chapel and a former member of First Baptist Church in Pittsfield. She also was a member of Order of Eastern Star and the Lanesboro Senior Center. She was a past president of the Massachusetts Hospital Secretaries Association. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, sewing and playing cards at the Senior Center. She leaves two sons, Richard W. Miner of Lanesboro and Thomas G. Miner of Chester, N.Y.; a sister, Lillian Horton of Berkshire, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Evelyn M. Miner, 85, of Lanesboro, who died March 17, 2004, will be conducted Saturday at 10 at Berkshire Union Chapel in Lanesboro by the Rev. William Furey, pastor. Burial will take place later in the spring in Bryant Cemetery in Cummington. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Mrs. Miner leaves her two daughters-in-law, Sandi Miner and Sally Miner; three grandchildren, Vicki White, Tracy Ames and Craig Miner, and three great-grandchildren, Robyn and Jessica Miner and Zoe Olivia White. She also leaves her longtime good friend, Martin Hopper of Pittsfield. Her former husband, William A. Miner, died Oct. 3, 2001. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Medical Center Cancer Research Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
